Job Summary

Provide customer service, reference, readers' advisory, and programs. In the absence of more senior staff, is responsible for the library location or department.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide reference and readers' advisory
  • Provide circulation services to customers, including cash handling
  • Participate in supervision, scheduling, training and/or evaluation
  • In the absence of more senior staff, is responsible for the library location or department including staff, facility, and health and safety
  • Coordinate, plan, and conduct programs, class visits, tours, outreach
  • Prepare payroll, attendance, and financial reports
  • Coordinate and perform duties such as, collection maintenance, inventories, supplies, financial records, holds, art exhibits, displays and room bookings.
  • Participate on system-wide task teams and/or special projects or events.
  • Prepare reports and statistics
  • Responsible for fostering a positive and respectful workplace
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Secondary school graduation plus 3 years library experience, or a university degree/post-secondary library diploma with some library experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are essential in dealing with the staff and public
  • Effective written and oral skills in English are essential
  • Demonstrated keyboarding ability
  • Ability to lead others
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of library electronic resources
  • Computer skills are required in relevant software
  • Ability to identify process improvements and efficiencies, and lead implementation of changes
  • Lifting is involved
  • Available to work at all Mississauga Library locations
  • Available to work a minimum of 28 hours per week within library hours of work in blocks of a minimum of 4 hours (excluding Sunday).
  • Hours of work to include evenings and Saturdays
  • Sunday work may be required


Please note: This is a bargaining unit position. CUPE Local 1989 members will be given consideration for this vacancy, as per the collective agreement, followed by all other employees.

Compensation

$31.02 - $37.35 per hour
