Overview
The incumbent will manage the library’s main research help email account, providing reference and directional assistance. They will work with the Head, Access Services and Outreach Librarian to plan, promote, and deliver library programming for the Lakehead Community. The incumbent will partner with other staff or departments to plan events such as orientation and student appreciation events. They will plan and deliver Makerspace orientation sessions, assist in the training of Makerspace Student Assistants, and provide end-user support and instruction in the use of Makerspace equipment and applications. The incumbent will work with the technology services centre (TSC) to update weekly guest accounts, which provides computer access to visitors. The incumbent will also support the work of the Access Services department by updating signage related to special notices, events, and hours.
Responsibilities
- Providing general direction, service, and support to the university community and the public; in person, over the phone and online.
- Assisting patrons with use of the library website (e.g. searching Omni, placing requests, online renewals, booking study rooms, searching for course reserves, etc.).
- Providing preliminary support to all library users and making referrals to liaison librarians when necessary.
- Processing official photo identification for Lakehead staff and students. This includes printing and activating cards and ensuring that users are added to Alma.
- Generating weekly passwords for library guest accounts.
- Maintaining monthly spreadsheets for all patrons who signed up for library guest accounts.
- Monitoring the Reference email and LibAnswers to reply to any requests looking for library assistance.
- Maintaining, updating and adding content to LibAnswers and LibGuides.
- Working with the Head, Access Services and Outreach Librarian to plan and deliver library programming for the Lakehead Community.
- Promoting library services and events through social media.
- Monitoring the Makerspace email and replying to any inquiries or requests or refering to the Makerspace manager.
Qualifications
- Library Technician Diploma
- Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS) such as Alma (Ex Libris)
- Experience providing reference and research services in an academic environment
- Advanced internet and online database searching skills
- Experience with all MS Office software, Google Drive, Windows
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of best practices related to accessibility and working with diverse populations

$41,101.60 - $55,673.80
