Consulting Services Manager/Consultant Librarian

(Permanent, Full-Time)

Peace Library System (PLS) is seeking a librarian with strong leadership abilities to oversee Consulting Services functions. The Consulting Services Manager leads a team of four people and is responsible for managing department budgets, projects, reporting, and supervision. The Consulting Services Manager supervises two Consultant Librarians, and the ILL Technician/Member Services Assistant. As part of the management team, this individual actively participates in policy development, strategic planning, coordination of PLS services, and TRAC-related public services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the CEO, this person plans, organizes and implements Consulting Services for effective and efficient service delivery to member public libraries
  • Supervises employees, including scheduling, training, performance management and work plans
  • Collaborates with TRAC members and working groups, other library systems and member library staff to continually improve customer service
  • Works with the management team to implement the PLS Plan of Service, prepare the annual budget, and prepare documentation for the Board of Directors
  • Shares Consultant Librarian duties to 46 member public libraries
  • Acts as a central resource person for public libraries by assisting with the development of collections, programs and services, and delivering relevant training

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • M.L.I.S. or equivalent from an accredited library school
  • Minimum of five years of library related experience
  • Strong management and leadership skills, including three to five years of supervisory experience
  • Customer-focused and able to communicate effectively with library managers in small public libraries
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient budget management skills, familiarity with programs and statistical reporting, and special projects
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and integrated library system software, Polaris preferred
  • Familiarity with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • Valid driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and willingness to travel (vehicle provided; some overnight travel required)

Starting Salary Range: $80,545 - $88,786

A generous benefit package commences upon completion of the six-month probationary period

Peace Library System headquarters is located in the City of Grande Prairie, approximately 450 km northwest of Edmonton. With a population of 69,355, Grande Prairie is an active, growing community with all services and amenities, situated in the beautiful Peace Country. Peace Library System serves a municipal population of over 175,000 and a student population of 11,700 through a network of 46 public and 47 school libraries across northwestern Alberta. It is a partner with three other library systems in The Regional Automation Consortium (TRAC).
