Position title: Technical Services Coordinator

Reports to: CEO and direct supervisor

Collaborates with: CEO, Program & Outreach Coordinator and Public Services Librarian

Position Summary: The Technical Services Coordinator is a key staff member who catalogs library materials and oversees and processes library materials and repairs. They ensure smooth order placement and cancellations of library materials. They provide computer assistance to library patrons and staff and are responsible for duties related to the maintenance of public access computers, electronic resources, Integrated Library System (ILS), library website, and social media (involving the marketing of the collection). This team member also assists with the interlibrary loan process, collections development and outreach to older adults when necessary and may supervise one employee and/or volunteers to assist with the above-listed tasks.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of experience in the library field
  • A minimum of one year of cataloging experience preferred
  • Education in library techniques from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of library information management systems and knowledge of technical standards
  • Ability to provide information and circulation services to adults and children in an automated environment
  • Ability to catalog in French an asset
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license required

Ability to learn the library’s ILS and OCLC cataloging functions; ability to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration and cooperation are essential; ability to organize tasks and meet deadlines; excellent customer service skills; good writing and report skills; demonstrated flexibility and initiative; working knowledge of common computer applications.

Job Description, primary tasks:

  • Places orders for library materials and supplies; ensures smooth order placement and receipt, cancellations when required, and invoicing/payment of orders
  • Tracks funds against budget for relevant accounts
  • Catalogs books
  • Oversees and processes new materials and oversees repair tasks
  • Participates in circulation and reference desk rotation as needed and other duties as assigned
  • Maintains statistical data
  • Provides computer assistance to library patrons and staff
  • Maintains the public access computers, electronic resources, Integrated Library System (ILS), library website, and social media (to market the collection)
  • Assists with the interlibrary loan process and collections development. Acts as support for outreach to older adults, if needed.
  • May be required to supervise part-time employees and/or volunteers who assist with above tasks

Working Conditions:

Rapidly changing environment. Requires working most or all Saturdays and some evenings. May be required to work more than 8 hours a day. Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Employment Type:

Permanent, full time, 30 hours/week. We offer comprehensive benefits, a pension and support for professional development. The rate is $20.55/hr (2020 rate).
