Job Summary
North Vancouver City Library is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented Youth Summer Reading Club Assistant (Library Technician) to temporarily join our team part-time (22 hours per week from May 27 to August 28, 2026). This term may be extended by mutual agreement or cancelled by the library at any time on two weeks’ notice.
This position requires a passion for reading and the ability to promote literacy to a diverse community of youth and adults. The position will be responsible for collaborating with professional and para-professional staff in the delivery of the BC Summer Reading Club initiative.
As the Youth Summer Reading Club Assistant, you will:
- Participate in the research and development of fun and engaging summer reading club programs for children and youth;
- Plan, coordinate and deliver programs and events for children and youth in support of the summer reading club program;
- Connect with community organizations to deliver partnership programs;
- With support from the library’s Communications staff, enthusiastically promote summer reading in the library and the community; and
- Deliver information services, including reference, reader’s advisory and technology support, for people of all ages and backgrounds at all library service points.
The successful candidate will have some familiarity with the community-led libraries model and current trends in public library services. Familiarity with literature for children and youth, including an interest in diverse authors, genres, and emerging formats would be an asset. Experience with the delivery of services to a diverse community of youth and families is desirable.

Qualifications:
You must have good general knowledge of and the ability to provide library services, particularly reader’s advisory for children and youth, in addition to account services, technology assistance, referral service and literacy-based programming.

Salary:
$30.70 – $36.08/hour (pay grade 16; 2024 rates) + 12% in lieu of benefits
Schedule:
Wednesday – 5 – 9 p.m.
Thursday – 1 – 5 p.m.
Friday – 8:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Saturday – 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Schedules are reviewed periodically and subject to change with minimum two weeks' notice. Evenings and weekends are required.
