
Job Summary
About the Position:
The Vice President plays a critical role in supporting the President and ensuring the smooth operation of the ABQLA. This position requires a dedicated individual with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
The Vice President serves a one-year term, then becomes President of the ABQLA for a one-year term, and finally serves as Past President for one year.

About the ABQLA:
L’Association des bibliothécaires du Québec – Quebec Library Association (ABQLA) is a bilingual, non-profit volunteer association of library and information professionals, related personnel, and supporters throughout the province of Quebec. The Association provides a network for its members’ mutual support through education, advocacy, and communication. It promotes the role of library and information specialists and their institutions in the greater Quebec community. Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support: Assists the President in carrying out their duties, including chairing meetings, managing association email accounts, and overseeing the planning of events.
- Outreach and Partnerships: Develops and implements strategies to foster relationships with other library organizations, community groups, and potential partners.
- Event Planning: Oversees the planning and execution of association events, including conferences, workshops, and social gatherings.
- Board Governance: Participates actively in board meetings, contributing to decision-making processes and strategic planning.
- Communication: Maintains effective communication with board members, members, and other stakeholders.

Location:
While many of the ABQLA's activities, including monthly board meetings, are held online, most of our events are held in-person in Montreal.
Time Commitment:
The Vice President position requires a significant time commitment, including attending board meetings, participating in committee work, and dedicating time to outreach and event planning. While the workload varies throughout the year, please expect to spend at least 5 hours a week on this role.
