About our Library System

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest Regional District department, delivers services through 13 locations – urban and rural, a Mobile Library, and Library Home Service. Patron-centric, the TNRL goes the distance in providing service for a lifetime of personal growth, learning and enjoyment through programming, resources and space designed for people of all ages and abilities.

The Kamloops Library is located in the bustling TNRD Civic Building which also houses the Kamloops Art Gallery and a busy café. This 15,000 sq. ft. branch is a hub for community, literacy and arts programs. The Aberdeen Tiny Library is a 350 sq. ft. express library. The primary focus is to provide access to new, popular, and bestselling collections. Although small, it makes a big impact on the residents of Kamloops. The library provides access beyond its open hours by incorporating RFID technology to offer holds pick up.

The Role

We are seeking a temporary, full-time Team Lead for the Kamloops Library to coordinate day-to-day operations, membership, and circulation functions, and to promote the library’s vision, purpose and goals. You will create a superior customer experience by leading and modeling exemplary service.  You will be responsible for scheduling staff to support customer service, developing and maintaining branch procedures and providing supervision including coaching, recruitment and evaluation of employees. You will help patrons of all ages with circulation, reference, readers’ advisory and technology questions. You will lead by example, developing and maintaining effective relationships with all staff, patrons and the community.  You are a team-player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You understand and are able to apply emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in public library services. You will work collaboratively and collegially with library coordinators and managers to achieve the library’s goals. You will oversee the maintenance of library stacks including shelving, shelf reading, shifting and other related tasks. The schedule for this position is subject to change.  There is a physical component to this position as well.

This is a temporary, full-time position (35 hours/week) on a six-week rotation (weeks 1-4 shifts are Monday to Friday, week 5 shifts are Sunday to Thursday, and week 6 shifts are Tuesday to Saturday) with the following schedule:

Sunday 8:30-4:00
Monday 9:30-5:00
Tuesday 9:30-5:00
Wednesday 9:30-5:00
Thursday 12:30-8:00
Friday 9:30-5:00
Saturday 9:30-5:00

This position is temporary and scheduled to end on January 29, 2028, or upon the return of the incumbent.

The schedule for this position is subject to change. This position may be extended or shortened with two weeks' notice.

Job Requirements

You have a:

  • Minimum 4-year undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or a Library Technician Diploma.   Coursework related to libraries, leadership, and/or supervision is preferred.
  • Minimum one year (full time equivalent) of relevant library work experience, and minimum one year (full time equivalent) experience in a formal or informal leadership capacity.
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

  • Superior organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to problem solve and develop and implement process improvements including training programs, procedures and manuals
  • Proven reliability with demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, tact, confidentiality, and sound independent judgement
  • Superior working knowledge of ILS processes and procedures
  • Exceptional technical skills and aptitude including but not limited to:
    • Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office Programs
    • Ability to operate mobile technology such as e-readers, tablets, etc.
  • Ability to lift 20 to 25 lbs
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License

The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union, local 705. This is a Grid 14 position, which pays $31.80 - $35.20 per hour (2025 rates).
