Job Summary
We are looking for someone to temporarily join our Main Library team as Contract Supervisor, Main Library. What You’ll Do:
- Lead and support a team of Library Assistants at the Main Library including hiring, training, supervision, and performance management.
- Ensure high-quality customer service by resolving escalated customer issues and maintaining effective communication with staff.
- Prepare weekly schedules for location staff including approving time off and coordinating scheduling changes.
- Collaborate with internal teams to operationalize service needs and accessibility of the physical space.
- Collaborate with internal teams for location-specific programming and events, and collections management.
- Work to maintain positive relationships within the neighbouring community to promote library supports and services.
- Act as person in charge (PIC) regularly and provide front-line library service where required.
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum 2-year college diploma and at least 2 years of practical experience providing customer, information, and reference services in a public library.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience, including delegating work, overseeing daily operations, and providing coaching and performance feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively across individuals and teams at all levels.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and decision-making skills with the flexibility to manage multiple priorities. Ability to make sound judgement in unexpected situations.
- Proficiency with emerging technology tools and ability to quickly adapt to new technology.
Schedule:
The contract period is expected to run from September, 2026 until September, 2027
The schedule is Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Thursdays 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., alternating Fridays and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Schedules are subject to change. The ability to work at any library location is required.
Salary/Wage/Benefits:
The starting wage is $42.47 per hour (Level F). Benefits include paid sick leave, personal leave and appointment time, as well as optional participation in the OMERS pension plan with matching employer contributions.
