JOB SUMMARY
Under the authority of the Chief Executive Officer – The Nation Municipality Public Library, the incumbent is responsible for managing the daily operations across the three (3) Library branches.
The incumbent leverages in-depth library expertise along with strong leadership and supervisory abilities to manage Library services, uphold high standards of customer service, oversee the Library collection, and contribute to community programming.
They play a key role in implementing Board policies, monitoring operational effectiveness, supervising staff, supporting financial oversight, and ensuring that Library services are aligned with the strategic priorities established by the Library Board.
MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
- Supervise and support Library staff and volunteers, including scheduling, onboarding, coaching, and basic training.
- Manage the daily operations of all three (3) Library branches to ensure effective service delivery.
- Provide direct customer service as needed, assisting clients with borrowing materials, account management, and technology use.
- Catalogue and classify Library materials according to AACR2, RDA, Dewey Classification System, and MARC21 standards.
- Maintain the integrity of the Library’s integrated catalogue and support collection development activities, including acquisitions, weeding, and inventory.
- Implement Library Board policies and operational procedures under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Monitor daily financial transactions such as fines and service fees; ensure accurate cash handling and reporting.
- Assist the Chief Executive Officer with operational budget tracking, statistics collection, and grant application support.
- Organize and coordinate Library programs and events for children, teens, and adults.
- Maintain a welcoming and orderly Library environment, ensuring facilities and resources are properly presented.
- Manage and respond to day-to-day client concerns and escalate significant service issues as necessary.
- Maintain good relationships with community organizations, schools, and service partners.
- Participate in the promotion of Library services and activities through communication materials and community outreach.
- Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: College diploma in a library-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, including leadership and administrative skills.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in library services, government library, or public library environment.
- Previous experience supervising staff or leading teams is considered an asset.
Certification/Accreditation/Professional Order:
- CPR, First Aid, and WHMIS training (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
Specific knowledge:
- Proficiency in oral and written French and English.
- Proficiency in the MS 365 Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Knowledge of cataloguing standards: AACR (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules), RDA (Resource Description and Access), DEWEY Classification System, and MARC21 (Machine Readable Code) format.
- Knowledge of OCLC Worldcat bibliographic tools.
- Understanding of the operation and administration of an Integrated Library Management System (ILS).
- In-depth knowledge of public library services, collection development, and community programming.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical effort required:
- Transport materials between the three (3) Library branches, such as boxes of books, office supplies, etc., of a certain weight (approximately 10kg to 25kg).

Work rhythm:
- The workplace can become noisy at times, requiring the exercise of discipline and diplomacy.
- Regular work across three (3) different branches, which may change quickly.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends on a regular or occasional basis, depending on operational needs and Library programming.
Hour of work: 35 hours per week
Position Status: Permanent (with benefits) and OMERS retirement plan, Employee Assistance Programs (Dialogue)
Salary: $38.15 to $43.13 per hour (depending on experience)
