We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic and dependable to join our team as a Information Technician at our Sooke branch. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful work experience while contributing to a welcoming and inclusive library environment that serves communities across Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii, and Bella Coola.
What you’ll do
Under the direction of the Library Manager, the Information Technician assists in maintaining the branch collections, and providing public service in the use of library resources (print and electronic). The Information Technician provides public services to customers of all ages by working directly with the public. The Information Technician works in a team environment and assists the Library Manager in the delivery of branch programs and services.
- Provides service on a regularly scheduled basis, including reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages.
- Under the direction of the Library Manager, adjusts and weeds the branch collection.
- Prepares displays on specific topics.
- Ability and knowledge to assist customers and staff with the use of technology, devices, information resources (print and electronic) and the use of various service applications
and web-based platforms. - Assists the Library Manager to train the branch staff in the areas of reader’s advisory, reference and eResources.
- Under the direction of the Library Manager, may assist in the facilitation of training and programming for specialized technology.
- Assists in preparing and delivering of branch programming.
- Assist in reader’s advisory and providing excellent service to the public.
- Able to carry out all representative duties as noted on the Library Assistant job description.
- Other related duties as required.
What you bring
- Two-year Library and Information Technician Diploma or completion of a related post-secondary degree
- Minimum one year’s work experience in a library or an environment where public service is a core focus
- Experience in delivering and presenting classes and events for customers of all ages, in person and virtually, required
- Demonstrated reader’s advisory, reference, and eResource skills
- Strong technology skills including: Microsoft Office programs, web-based services, and other applications
- Effective troubleshooting skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Enthusiastic with the ability to provide excellent public service
- Ability to learn new technologies, applications and software, processes, and skills
- Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check
