We are looking for a Human Resources Coordinator to temporarily join our team and help us provide support and advice for our staff on HR matters, coordinate Library recruitment, process employee documentation, liaise with City Departments, and perform other related HR tasks.
About the position
This is a temporary full-time position until approximately January 2027. The position is based at the Metrotown Library and will report to the Manager, Library Human Resources.

What you’ll do
- Conduct full cycle recruitment and promotion competitions for CUPE and Exempt Library staff; collaborate with hiring managers/supervisors and Manager, Human Resources to create job postings, prepare interview materials, administer scoring, and participate in screening, interviewing, reference checks and selection of candidates.
- Monitor selection processes to ensure compliance with collective agreement, Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation and/or regulations. Report ambiguous interpretations to Manager, Human Resources.
- Prepare job offer letters and new employee documentation packages, meet with and provide instruction on completion of applicable forms to staff.
- Facilitate new employee onboarding in collaboration with hiring managers/supervisors; plan, coordinate and develop training schedules for cohort auxiliary hiring, confirm training content and onboarding manual, prepare equipment and materials required, deliver HR orientation training module.
- Prepare, maintain, process and monitor employee documentation related to status and benefits changes in SAP; track hours for probation, benefits, increments and seniority purposes.
- Work closely with the City of Burnaby People and Culture department to provide support for attendance management, return to work, long service, and other programs.
- Provide assistance and act as a trusted advisor to staff regarding benefit plans, the collective agreement, HR policies and procedures within specified limits and guidelines; provide information in response to external credit and reference check requests.
- Participate in exempt staff meetings and provide input on system wide library development.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with supervisors, managers, staff and a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of confidential digital and non-digital files such as employee files, competitions and position files, and staff attendance records.
- Update and maintain the Employee Services pages on BPL’s internal staffweb and a variety of reports, correspondence, statistics and procedural manuals related to library HR and OH&S practices.
- May assist in processing external training requests for Library staff, liaise with the City of Burnaby People and Culture department on City-offered training courses; research outside training courses appropriate for library specific training as required; make logistical arrangements and prepare documentation for City Accounting.
- May track and compile information to identify patterns, gaps and anomalies in training budget expenses; make recommendations on training topics and budget, compile quarterly training statistics and explain variances.
- May assist in coordinating and maintaining Library first aid certification and other OH&S matters as needed.
- May provide administrative support to Chief Librarian and Library Board Trustees.
- Perform other related work as required.

- You hold a Diploma in Human Resources plus 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- You have in-depth knowledge of the Employment Standards Act plus previous work experience applying and interpreting collective agreements or other relevant legislation/regulation.
- You have a keen eye on details with superior clerical aptitude and intermediate proficiency in software applications such as MS Office suites, Visio, Outlook, SAP, and SharePoint.
- You are a confident communicator, both verbal and written.
- You are comfortable in a small team, working collaboratively and efficiently.
- Your friends would describe you as reliable, consistent, someone who has good judgement and problem-solving abilities.
- You have demonstrated connection to and knowledge of the cultural practices, languages, or histories of communities represented in the library’s service area.
What we offer
- An annual salary range between $70,675 and $84,390 with excellent comprehensive benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan and transit incentives.
- A 9-day fortnight work schedule (work 7.77 hours for 9 days and have the 10th day off), with one day worked remotely from home. The schedule of the position is listed below.
Week 1: Monday – Friday 8:30-4:45
Week 2: Monday – Thursday 8:30-4:45, Friday OFF
