Position Overview

The Port Moody Public Library is seeking a resourceful and innovative Digital & Information Services Coordinator. As the Digital & Information Services Coordinator, you will lead a small team that enjoys providing front-line customer service and fostering digital literacy within the community. In this role, you will have the opportunity to take the lead and influence what and how information and digital services are being delivered at the library. You will also be able to share your enthusiasm and curiosity for technology when planning and implementing library services.

This role is for someone who appreciates the challenge of taking on a variety of responsibilities in a dynamic environment, and who enjoys working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
In addition to core responsibilities, this position may be called on to serve in an acting capacity as either the Director or Deputy Director of Library Services, providing leadership continuity and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the library.
This is a regular full-time position. Hours will include evenings. It is anticipated this will be a Tuesday to Saturday position, with one weekly regular evening shift.

Responsibilities 

This position will collaborate with Digital and Information Services staff to plan, deliver, and evaluate library services. Your responsibilities include:

  • Schedule, plan, assign, and evaluate the work of staff on the Digital and Information Services team, as well as auxiliary librarians and library technicians.
  • Oversee the operation of the library’s Information Desk.
  • Oversee the selection, licensing, management and promotion of the library’s digital collections and other library collections, as assigned.
  • Manage the library’s public website and lead the development of website content.
  • Ensure that web services and virtual resources are designed for ease of use and convenience of patrons.
  • Coordinate and participate in the overall provision of reference and readers’ advisory services (in-person and virtual).
  • Plan, organize, and deliver a variety of digital initiatives, such as programs and one-on-one instruction, for both the public and library staff.
  • Create and maintain digital training materials and online resources.
  • Evaluate emerging trends, tools and technologies (including social networking and mobile technologies) for potential innovative use and integration into library public services.
  • Implement new initiatives.
  • Oversee and contribute to the library’s social media presence by creating, curating, and scheduling engaging content that promotes library services, programs, and digital resources.
  • Assist with administration of the library’s public access technology (e.g. computers, printers).
  • Promote digital services and resources; and work to raise community awareness of services provided.
  • Work collaboratively to develop partnerships and plan services that are responsive to community needs.
  • Represent the library on professional and other committees and at meetings.

Qualifications

  •  A Master’s degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum two years of recent, relevant experience in a public library setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of electronic resources and digital media within a library setting, including experience selecting and evaluating these resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collection management principles.
  • Knowledge of current trends and industry best practices in the use of technology in library public service.  Proficient in relevant technologies.
  • Experience in website management and creation of web content in a CMS environment.
  • Proficiency in delivering reference and readers’ advisory services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practice in the design and delivery of digital literacy programs and initiatives.
  • Experience designing and delivering digital literacy instruction in multiple formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and lead innovation.
  • Strong project management skills, and ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and to work collaboratively with others to improve service to the public.
  • Ability to train and support staff and patrons in the use of digital tools and resources.
  • Excellent customer service skills including the ability to deal with challenging patrons.

Compensation
