Position: Collections Librarian - Adult Status: Full Time (Level XI)
Salary Range: $71,966.59 – 86,738.70 annually
Home Location: Main Branch
Hours of Work: Works 70 hours over a two-week period

Position Summary

The Collections Librarian – Adult, is responsible for the development, diversifying, monitoring and evaluation of MPL’s collection with a specific focus on the Adult collection in all formats including the Local History and electronic resources. The Collections Librarian is also responsible for the curation of MPL’s digitized collections and for the oversight of all system-wide digitization projects.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and curate assigned collections that are diverse, equitable and representative that appeal to and meet community needs
  • Responsible for the selection, purchase, and deselection of Adult and electronic collections in all formats
  • Effectively manage relationships with key stakeholders & vendors
  • Coordinates and critically reviews the Automatic Release Plans, approval processes and other selection methods with vendors
  • Recommends and advises programming staff on collection-related programming
  • Leads and coordinates marketing and promotion of Adult, Local History and Electronic resources
  • Use various analytical and maintenance tools to effectively administer and assess all aspects of the collection, system wide including, but not limited to, weeding and collection performance
  • Identifies and coordinates opportunities for community outreach and engagement with a focus on enhancing and diversification of the collection
  • Responds to Request for Reconsideration and Request for Purchase forms for MPL, in conjunction with the Director, Support Services
  • Development and delivery of training for library staff in relation to acquisition or curation and use of collections
  • Demonstrates customer service excellence in the delivery of in-depth reference and readers’ advisory services and the effective merchandising of collections, including development of new merchandising initiatives
  • In collaboration with the Director, Support Services, leads all digitization projects including but not limited to, digitizing materials, creation of metadata, post-production processing, promotion and digital exhibitions
  • Develops and promotes community engagement initiatives by building partnerships, coordinating outreach, and promoting MPL’s digitization resources to increase visibility and revenue
  • Responsible for the oversight, coordination, exhibition and delivery of programs, services and content that elevate MPL’s local history collections and digitization services
  • Chairs MPL’s collections committee (Adult) and contributes to the planning of Public Service & Support Services
    Supports MPL’s virtual presence, identifying marketing outreach and other opportunities
  • Contributes to the development of service goals and policy developmentProvides input into the Collection Management Policy
  • Acts in an “In-Charge” capacity as required
  • Attends relevant meetings, workshops, courses and conferences as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science (MLIS) from an accredited program
  • One year of collection development experience
  • Experience in community outreach and engagement
  • Experience with library materials selection
  • Demonstrated experience in program development
  • Knowledgeable with new and emerging technologies
  • Experience in an automated environment and with computer skills
  • Strong customer service background
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Some travel between work locations; ability to travel

Work Environment:

  • Unionized position as part of CUPE Local 4366
  • Ability to bend and reach upper and lower shelves and lift items up to 10kg
  • Works in a fast-paced environment
  • Works at any MPL library location
  • Works as per the assigned schedule, including evenings and weekends as per the provisions within the Collective Agreement

Compensation

$71,966.59 – 86,738.70
