Job Summary
The West Vancouver Memorial Library (WVML) is well known as an innovative and award-winning library that prioritizes inclusion, a learning culture, organizational integrity, and enhancing community through our programs, services, and relationships. Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Memorial Library is currently seeking a replacement temporary part-time Public Service Assistant for approximately 3 months. The successful candidate in this role will be based out of the Customer and Community Experience Department and will be responsible for:
- Providing excellent customer service and readers’ advisory skills;
- Communicating effectively orally and in writing with community members and teams from other departments;
- Using a variety of devices and providing tech instruction to meet diverse community needs;
- Assisting with delivering in-person and virtual Library programs; and,
- Promoting the library through displays, tours and presentations to groups both inside and outside the library and performing other related duties, as required.
The successful candidate must enjoy assisting customers on an individual basis. This position is ideally suited to someone with patience, who likes working with people of all ages, who is adaptable and can multi-task, who is calm under pressure, and who enjoys and has the ability to troubleshoot technology related questions and problems. Experience working with older adults and people with accessibility needs as well as a passion for literature and culture are assets for this role. The ability to deliver library services in more than one language will also be an asset.
The preferred candidate will have a certificate or diploma in Library studies or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.
