Position Summary
Huron County Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and community-minded individual to join our team! We are currently seeking a Full-Time Branch Assistant to support the Goderich and Bayfield Branches as part of our West Team.

Working closely with the Branch Manager, you’ll support the day-to-day operations of both branches while leading the development and delivery of engaging programs that inspire curiosity, foster literacy, and bring our communities together in support of the library’s strategic plan.

Schedule
The schedule outlined below reflects the regular hours for this position. As part of a collaborative team, the successful candidate will be expected to work occasional alternate shifts to support branch operations and service delivery. The schedule may vary to meet the service and operational needs of the branch.
Monday – Goderich 12:45-8:15 (7)
Tuesday – Goderich 9:45-5:15 (7)
Wednesday – Goderich 9:45-5:15 OR 12:45-8:15 (7)
Thursday – Bayfield 11:45-7:15 (7)
Friday – OFF
Saturday – Goderich 9:45-5:15 (7)
Sunday – OFF
Role and Responsibilities
- Reference and Readers’ advisory services, including assisting patrons to find information in all formats.
- Provides technical assistance to library users on all platforms.
- Develops relationships with local community to enhance collaboration and understanding of community needs.
- Uses creativity to develop, prepare and deliver library programs.
- Markets the library collection through displays, at-desk promotion, and social media.
- Serves library users at the circulation desk.
- Introduces new members to the library and explains services.
- Maintains up-to-date and confidential membership records.
- Notifies patrons of overdue materials and arrival of requested materials.
- Negotiates any problems as required in the absence of the branch manager.
- Ensures collection is in good condition and relevant through ongoing collection maintenance.
- Works in more than one branch library and may be responsible for a branch library in the absence of the branch manager.
- May have an area of responsibility such as community connection, outreach, children’s, seniors, youth or local history.
- Performs other duties as required by the branch manager.
Qualifications and Education
- Post secondary training in public library services, including a Master of Library & Information Science, library technician (Community College, 2 years), or excel program in small library management.
- 2 years experience (3000 hours) working with the public; familiarity with library service an asset.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and become Safe Places Youth Certified
