Position: Cataloguing Associate, Multilingual Materials
Department: Production - Cataloguing
Directly Reports To: Cataloguing Supervisor
Position Overview:
Library Bound Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven individual to join our Cataloguing Department as a Multilingual Cataloguing Associate. Reporting to the Cataloguing Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for cataloguing print and audio-visual materials, with an emphasis on original print cataloguing. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to meet production targets, and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Perform original cataloguing of materials where no MARC record exists
• Conduct copy cataloguing using existing MARC records
• Update and edit previously catalogued materials, including call number adjustments
• Upload and maintain catalogued records in the system
• Research and prepare metadata for records lacking key descriptive elements
• Review and correct cataloguing records to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Apply cataloguing standards including MARC 21, RDA, Dewey Decimal Classification (23rd edition), Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings
• Create and edit call numbers as required
• Use macros and cataloguing tools with a high level of accuracy
• Maintain required production quotas for assigned material types
• Ensure labeling accuracy and quality control standards are met
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace to support productivity and safety
• Complete assigned work within established timelines and departmental expectations
• Adhere to workplace policies regarding appropriate computer and system use
• Participate in ongoing training and quality review processes under supervisor guidance
Education and Experience Qualifications:
Required:
• Library and Information Technician Diploma, or
o Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent), or currently enrolled in a Library Technician program with relevant coursework and placements
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant cataloguing experience may be considered
• Experience with cataloguing library materials using MARC 21, RDA, Dewey Decimal Classification, and LC Subject Headings
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications
Assets:
• Knowledge of or interest in multilingual materials (e.g., French, Arabic, Farsi, Indic and Dravidian languages, or others); fluency is not required, but demonstrated interest or enthusiasm for languages is preferred
• Courses or certifications related to archival materials
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and library organization
• Advanced computer skills and comfort working in electronic cataloguing environments
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and meticulous work habits
• Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Flexibility and adaptability in a changing workload environment
• Strong service orientation and commitment to quality
Work Environment & Schedule:
On-site position at the Waterloo office. This is a 37.5-hour per week position. Regular schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Compensation:
Pay rate is based on experience and qualifications. Pay Grid as of January 17, 2026, is Cataloguing Associate I: $22.80 per hour; and a competitive benefits package.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including bending, pushing, and moving materials
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds
