Job Summary:

The Research Librarian guides students and faculty through the research process so they can use the resources and services of the George A. Rawlyk Library to maximal advantage in their scholarly endeavours. This position manages Crandall’s research and data management (RDM) workflow as well as the instructional and outreach activities of the library.

The position is responsible for engaging in library activities outside the walls of the library’s physical space, both on and off campus, and both in person and online. These activities include teaching students how to do library research, creating online research aids, and generating excitement about what the library has to offer. The position also helps inform the University Librarian’s administrative decisions by gathering statistics and writing reports relating to the library collection, library technologies, library usage, and Crandall-related research outputs.

Key Duties:

  1. Oversees Crandall’s institutional RDM activities and technologies; supports faculty in their research; and tracks publications relating to Crandall and its students, staff, and faculty
  2. Manages the library’s technologies by serving as the technology contact for vendors; reporting on updates to the integrated library system; engaging in embedded librarianship; and maintaining the library’s website, research guides, and social media
  3. Generates excitement and interest about the library’s resources and services by creating advertisements, planning events, collaborating with other departments, and making targeted recommendations to individuals
  4. Gathers statistics to monitor various library features including electronic resource usage; physical collection development; reference interview characteristics; and gate counts
  5. Oversees the instructional activities of the library including delivering library orientation sessions, presenting library technology workshops, and creating online library tutorials

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master of Library Science degree or equivalent is required.
  • Additional graduate degree in a discipline taught at Crandall would be an asset.
  • Excellent research skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to excellence in serving faculty, staff, and students
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, especially in Excel
  • Experience with instruction, event planning, and online library systems
  • Experience with LibGuides, WorldShare Management Services, and COUNTER 5 would be an asset
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Ability to learn new technologies and procedures
  • Ability to evaluate materials visually
  • Accuracy and efficiency in performing repetitive tasks

Salary: Librarian Level 1 ($54,930 – $ 72,480); placement on scale based on experience
