The Library Technologist, Digital Skills & Web Content Management supports the Conestoga community's technology-enabled learning and digital skills development needs. This role involves coordinating and delivering an effective set of digital literacy services and maintaining an organized, relevant and accurate library web presence. The successful candidate is a resource for library staff in planning and producing eLearning objects (e.g. video tutorials, interactive assessments, and activities) to enhance instructional delivery. The Library Technologist will also act as a resource person, providing instructional support and collection development services as assigned. They will provide comprehensive frontline services and support to students and faculty.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with three days on-site at the Doon campus in Kitchener, located at 299 Doon Valley Dr., and two days remote. Travel to Conestoga campuses may be required periodically.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stays current with competencies, emerging technologies, and best practices in digital skills, eLearning, web content development, and instructional design theories
- Supports students, faculty and staff in developing their digital literacy skills by planning, developing and maintaining effective digital literacy training resources
- Develops, manages and maintains web content (e.g. LibGuides) to ensure it is effectively organized, accurate, relevant, and adheres to best practices in accessibility and web usability, including custom HTML and CSS coding; trains other departmental authors to follow best practices
- Plans, delivers and assesses instructional workshops focused on research skills with oversight from a Librarian
- Develops library instruction support materials, videos, modules, and other learning objects
- Promotes the value of information literacy and related services in dealings with faculty
- Delivers one-on-one or group consultations, guiding users to develop their research skills and locate resources to address information needs
- Assists with the location of relevant support materials for integration into the course curriculum, including materials within and beyond the library’s collections (e.g. Open Educational Resources)
- Provides reference services for Conestoga students, faculty and staff and guides users in the inquiry and research process, including the provision of virtual (online) reference services
- Using the integrated library system, loans materials, maintains and updates accounts and books, media and technology
- Offers technology assistance as part of TeachMeTech and Tech Bar services, including access issues, hardware and software training troubleshooting
- Offers basic support on assistive technology and refers to the Assistive Technology Specialists where appropriate
- Provides a range of academic support services, which may include offering guidance and utilizing available resources for citing and referencing, the academic integrity process, learning and study skills, technology and digital skills
- Selects and de-selects resources to develop a timely, relevant, accurate and accessible collection
- Accurately records and tracks purchases using vendor purchasing and collection management tools as well as any internal purchasing databases
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A four-year degree in library sciences or a four-year degree in a related field with a Library Technician diploma is required
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a library setting, including developing and facilitating workshops, developing learning objects using current online instructional techniques, pedagogy and tools, managing web content (including editing HTML and CSS) and using content management systems (e.g. Springshare's LibGuides platform) is required; experience in an academic library is preferred
- Proven ability to work in a variety of capacities using and supporting clients in the use of technology for learning
- Technical development of learning objects (e.g. use of rapid eLearning authoring tools like Camtasia, Captivate or Articulate Storyline) and interactive websites
- Skilled in finding information and making recommendations, with excellent oral and written communication abilities
- Knowledgeable about current trends, best practices, tools, and technologies related to accessibility, including web accessibility standards and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and good judgment, with a proven ability to maintain respectful and constructive relationships and provide excellent customer service
- Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, coordinate, implement, and assess services independently and collaboratively, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Excellent computer and digital literacy skills, with an aptitude for researching, learning and using new technologies to enhance services
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Specialized knowledge of collection development and information literacy practices
- Formal training in instructional strategies would be considered an asset
