Position Summary:
Under the administrative direction of the Snr. Manager Library Services and the professional guidance of the Librarians, Library Co-ordinator Collections and Technical Services, and Co-ordinators, the incumbent performs a variety of academic support and technical service functions associated with the operation of the Library Learning Commons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide reference and research assistance to clients that require assistance.
- Perform derived and/or original cataloguing of all formats applying professional bibliographic standards (RDA, MARC & LC Class/SH).
- Support and maintain the journal collection, troubleshooting issues, submitting and tracking claims, maintaining the journal shelves.
- Support and maintain eResource collections, eBooks, streamed content available through a variety of platforms and services.
- Support circulation services related to maintaining holds, interlibrary loans including using the consortium resource sharing service, and the Accessible Content ePortal Service Develop and maintain research guides.
- Provide support to Librarians on project and during instruction sessions.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum two-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Library and Information Technician, Library Techniques.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience which includes:
- Advanced knowledge of technical services and processes in an academic library with in-depth experience working with varied collection formats and experience working with library vendors and consortium.
- Advanced knowledge of specific library platforms and services used to carry out backend library functions such as ALMA/Primo, Springshare products, Kanopy, EbscoNet.
- Practical experience and advanced knowledge working with eServices (eBooks and journals, streamed content, films and media) and technical know-how related to PDA, DDA, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge and experience working with various licensing options and understanding the jargon related to eResources. Experience evaluating performance and usage of eResources.
- Knowledge and experience setting up and/or maintaining eResources in the Alma environment with a good understanding of the types of zones used and how to work with collection portfolios.
- Experience with the administration of Kanopy and an understanding of how to work with mediated titles.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience in applying RDA, LC Subject headings and classification, MARC 21 format for bibliographic records and experience cataloguing all formats including film, media and e-resources.
- Experience with processes to maintain a journal collection.
- Experience with resource sharing processes.
- Knowledge of AODA protocols especially in relation to collections and the use of ACE and LEAP. Familiar with WAVE browser extensions (Chrome, Edge, FireFox), Screen readers such as NVDA, Apple Voiceover, Read& Write, Adobe Acrobat for Pro, Screen Resolution Tester. Knowledge of universal design principles and protocols. Experience using captioning tools for media.
- Experience in creating research guides.
- Experience delivering reference services in a hybrid environment (online and in-person) and knowledge of library databases and collections at GBC.
- Experience in developing/executing library promotion events.

- Intermediate knowledge of office applications, Word and Excel.
- A commitment to and understanding of DEI.
- Able to lift up to 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., box/cart of books, AV equipment, supplies, etc.).
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
