Description

We are looking for an outgoing, service-oriented, tech savvy Assistant Librarian to join our team, get involved in our community, and support our strategic priorities. Espanola Public Library serves the town of Espanola and three contracting areas, with a total population of approximately 6,570.

This is a full-time permanent position, 70 hours per two-week period. The Assistant Librarian will support daily operations, coordinate programming and outreach services, coordinate and facilitate marketing, develop collections in alignment with Espanola Public Library Board’s strategic priorities, and provide service to patrons.

The candidate will manage a diverse set of responsibilities and be committed to supporting and providing library services to the community. The ideal candidate will be professional, flexible, innovative, with excellent relationship building and leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide welcoming and inclusive services to all members of Espanola Public Library and the broader communities served by the library.
  • Create new, and update existing library policies and procedures as necessary, under the direction of the CEO.
  • Work to collaboratively identify and implement annual project priorities in alignment with organizational and strategic priorities.
  • Supervise colleagues in a collaborative environment, foster high performance, develop effective working relationships.
  • Assist in the supervision of staff members and volunteers which may include: recruitment, scheduling, training, and evaluation.
  • Assist with planning, preparing, marketing, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of library programing and outreach.
  • Manage, supervise, and implement marketing strategies on the library website, social media, and through local news outlets and community organizations.
  • Provide service to patrons including: circulation service, reference, and reader’s advisory.
  • Develop physical and digital collections aligned with relevant policies and trends.
  • Supervise circulation services including: inter-library loan services, cataloguing materials according to appropriate standards, and maintaining library database.
  • Participate in and attend meetings, workshops, and other professional development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation including, but not limited to: Employment Standards, Health and Safety Standards, Ontario Public Libraries Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
  • Act as the librarian-in-charge as required, responsible for the library and supervision of other colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be adaptable and effective in working independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with technology including: computers, mobile devices, and emerging technology.
  • General knowledge and understanding of online information resources and systems.
  • Experience with integrated library systems.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Have a thorough understanding of information ethics, intellectual property, copyright and access, and privacy.
  • Ability to assume additional responsibilities and hours as necessary.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills that promote solution-based results.
  • Embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and principles in the workplace
  • Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution, or Library Technician Diploma, or Excel Certificate in Managing a Small Public Library.
  • Leadership or management experience, preferably in a public library setting.
  • Ability and willingness to pursue professional development for personal and library benefit.
  • Must be able to provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen.

Qualifications:

  • Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution, or Library Technician Diploma, or Excel Certificate in Managing a Small Public Library.
  • Leadership or management experience, preferably in a public library setting.
  • Ability and willingness to pursue professional development for personal and library benefit.
  • Must be able to provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen.

$50,746-$60,896
