Location: System-wide. You will be required to travel to all sites and external events.

Hours of Work: 35 hours including days, evenings, and weekends

In this role, you will support Oakville Public Library’s mandate to Inspire Oakville through internal and external leadership.

What you'll do

As a Branch Supervisor you will:

  • Lead a team of various branch employees who are strong advocates of exceptional customer service and OPL’s mandate to Inspire Oakville
  • Assist in the planning and development of the branch services
  • Hire, train, coach, assign work, schedule and evaluate branch employees in conjunction with the specific branch Manager
  • Interpret and implement policies and procedures in accordance with legislative requirements and OPL HR manual
  • Oversee and provide support to branch staff on customer-related matters, including the resolution of customer concerns
  • Oversee day to day service delivery in the areas of information, readers’ advisory services and circulation and ensure they are consistent across the organization and in line with library policies
  • Ensure collections are current, well-maintained, and displayed appropriately in accordance with OPL policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Supervise the ongoing operation and maintenance of the branch’s physical facility and capital equipment
  • Establish and maintain collaborations beneficial to both the library and the community
  • Manage projects on system or department specific initiatives including but not limited to working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in achieving financial objectives for assigned branch
  • Design, implement, deliver and evaluate library programs and outreach for targeted groups that offer information, special skills or entertainment in conjunction with the Branch Manager and Manager, Program Development
  • Act as the person in charge for the entire branch operations in the absence of the specific Branch Manager

  • Understand and effectively able to implement principles of Every Child Ready to Read ®, Developmental Assets ® and Connected Learning
  • Demonstrate knowledge of youth services, ages 0-18

Your experience and educational background:

  • Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS) is required
  • A minimum of three (3) - five (5) years of related library work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in library programming
  • Working knowledge of an integrated library system
  • General knowledge of the functions related to 3D printers, RFID, and Microsoft Office
