Library Assistant (On – Call)

OPPORTUNITY:

The Library Assistant is a dynamic partner in our student's educational journey: our mission is to create a positive learning environment and support student success. This casual position provides excellent service on an on-call basis. The Library Assistant will actively support student learning, guided by a student-centered approach and a strong belief in the value of education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist remote patrons with reference, citation, and library-use questions in person or remotely.
  • Assist in-person patrons with locating materials, use of equipment and technology, use of online resources, citations, and reference questions.
  • Create and maintain LibGuides and Moodle lessons.
  • Perform general circulation duties, including check-in check-out, creating, and maintaining patron records, opening, and closing duties, and troubleshooting issues with patron accounts.
  • Stack maintenance and general library tidiness.
  • Supporting the Indigenization and EDI activities of the Library and College.
  • Assist with material processing, book displays, social media, other library outreach initiatives, and other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Library Technician diploma completed or in process, BA is preferred.
  • At least one year of work experience in an academic library setting.
  • Knowledge of MLA, APA, and Chicago citation styles.
  • Comfortable with library circulation services and procedures.
  • Experience using an Integrated Library System.
  • Extensive working experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Friendly, and approachable, with a customer-service orientation.
  • Able to exercise good judgment.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and a team player.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of International Students and the challenges they face is an asset.

HOURS OF WORK:

On-call and scheduled shifts Monday to Saturday as needed. The bulk of work is performed during the 8th to 13th weeks of the semester (late October-early December).Some evening availability is required.

COMPENSATION:

In addition to working with an inclusive, progressive group of people, we offer an hourly gross salary of $29.08.
