The Legislative Assembly of Ontario seeks a Collections and Acquisitions Librarian to work as a part of our Reference Services team. Reporting to the Manager, Reference Services, this role is primarily responsible for planning, developing, and managing the acquisition of electronic and print resources to best meet the information and research needs of Members and the staff of the Legislative Assembly. What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Be responsible for selection, evaluation, and management of the Library’s collections of digital resources, print monographs, and serials, ensuring that resources continue to meet the information needs of Members and staff of the Legislative Assembly, while establishing that all licenses and contracts contain appropriate copyright permissions
  • Review and evaluate digital resources, monographs, and serials for renewal or cancellation, and make recommendations for the retention and withdrawal of individual titles.
  • Provide confidential, non-partisan reference services to Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) and their staff, Legislative Committees and staff of the Legislative Assembly and prepare clear, concise, and accessible written responses to reference questions
  • Demonstrate sound judgement, tact, discretion, and sensitivity to the political environment, often under situations of considerable pressure

You’ll support our collaboration as you:

  • Liaise with the Manager, Reference Services to prepare and monitor the resource budget, considering commitments to ongoing licenses, anticipating new acquisitions and changes in services or formats that may impact costs
  • Work daily with a team of Librarians, Library Technicians, and Research Officers to provide tailored information services and products

How You Qualify

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Master’s Degree in Library or Information studies (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library/information school
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a government or special library environment, with similar duties to assist in managing the selection process, planning and developing a collection and responding to client requests
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electronic publishing industry, the delivery of electronic information, collection development best practices, and budget preparation and analysis.
  • Experience with and knowledge of integrated library systems including acquisitions modules for managing the resources budget, orders, and serial control. Familiarity with ExLibris’ Alma platform, as well as knowledge of discovery systems such as ExLibris’ PRIMO VE will be an asset
  • Oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently or within teams to solve problems and set priorities. Awareness of current affairs and ability to stay abreast of topics of interest to Ontario’s Legislators
  • Experience working with legislation, parliamentary papers, and government information
  • Knowledge of Ontario and/or Canadian politics, and legislative and governmental structures and processes
  • Proficiency in French (would be an asset)

Compensation

$76,231.00 - $109,842.00 per annum
