We are currently looking for a results-oriented individual to join the Cataloguing Department at our Waterloo facility. We are looking for a professional who has a strong attention to detail and the ability to meet our weekly production goals. Your main duties will include original and derived cataloguing of print and audio-visual materials, with an emphasis on original print cataloguing.
Experience with: Cataloguing library materials, RDA, Marc 21, Dewey Decimal Classification and LC Subject Headings in an electronic environment along with excellent computer skills is required. The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education with a Library and Information Technician Diploma, a Masters in Library Science Degree or equivalent.

Role and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Cataloguing Supervisor, the Cataloguing associate shall be responsible for cataloguing derived print and non-print materials. The associate is responsible for searching and editing cataloguing copy with call number creation and editing of the material. It is completed through the use of numerous material specific tasks.
Perform cataloguing responsibilities, such as:
o Copy cataloguing material from an existing MARC record.
o Cataloguing of previously catalogued material, with
updating the call numbers if necessary.
o Uploading of catalogued material.
o Placing completed materials on the appropriate
shelves for distribution to another department.
o Proper application of macros for record editing
with up to 5% error rate.
o Able to use the following cataloguing standards
when properly trained on their use: MARC 21 coding, Dewey Decimal
Classification System 23rd edition, Library of Congress Classification, and
Library of Congress subject headings.
o Maintaining the minimum record quota for a given
material type and maintaining labeling accuracy.
o Ensuring that assigned work gets completed within a
reasonable time frame based on department quotas.
o Keeping an organized and clean work area to
maximize productivity and minimize safety matters.
o Responsible for ensuring that no programs are
downloaded and personal web surfing is not carried out at the computer terminal
assigned to the associate.
o Associates will be monitored by the Cataloguing Supervisor/Cataloguing Database Manager, who will check work for accuracy and point out any errors that occur, which facilitates continued training and growth of competency for up to a 6-month period or longer if required.
