The mission of the University of Winnipeg Library is to provide and organize the educational materials necessary to effectively support the teaching, research, and other programs offered at The University of Winnipeg. The Interlibrary Loan Assistant is a full-time continuing role responsible for end-user resource delivery and customer service.

Interlibrary Loan manages the borrowing and lending of materials between institutions on behalf of their patrons. This position will be responsible for providing timely and efficient interlending services and reports directly to the Interlibrary Loan supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Uses the interlibrary loan system to enter and track borrowing & lending requests; verifies bibliographic information; views, builds and modifies routing lists; and submits requests to lending institutions.
  • Provides requested materials to patrons via electronic delivery or item pickup.
  • Processes patron returns and prepares outgoing materials for shipping to requesting libraries.
  • Receives returned materials from requesting libraries, and processes items back into the Library’s collection.
  • Assists and advises both internal and external library staff and patrons regarding interlibrary loan requests.
  • Deals directly with requesting libraries concerning interlibrary loan issues, resolves problems, explains library policy.
  • Ensures interlibrary loan requests comply with the University of Winnipeg Copyright Policy.
  • Attends meetings, takes part in Library committees, participates in projects/assignments and other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School completion, undergraduate degree would be an asset.
  • 2-year diploma from a recognized Library technician’s program (or equivalent) would be an asset.
  • One year of directly related library experience using procedures, standards and systems appropriate to the area.
  • Familiarity with Canadian copyright guidelines would be an asset.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to apply automated and manual procedures/systems.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to learn and use relevant software.
  • Effective problem solving, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong public service orientation.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The salary range for this position is from $40,276.60 to $55,546.40 annually.
