Responsibilities | The Metadata & Discovery Librarian will collaborate closely with the Director, Learning Resources and the Library Management Team to: - manage and configure metadata for access to print and digital collections in the Library’s library services platform [FOLIO] and discovery service [EDS], and manage the sharing of such data with external partners and systems, such as the BC union catalogue [Outlook Online]
- develop, implement, monitor, evaluate, and improve plans for supporting an informed and responsive cataloguing and discovery strategy through guidelines, best practices, infrastructure, and resource development
- contribute to new cataloguing and metadata practices that describe more diverse collections, create more inclusive descriptions, and contribute to reparative practices that address historical omissions and harmful language
- utilize the Library’s library services platform and discovery tools to ensure the integrity and quality of metadata for Library resources and easy accessibility to collections for our broad and diverse range of users
- collaborate with the Library Operations Supervisor, Technical Services to provide ongoing training, development, and support for the Technical Services team
- gather, analyze, and report on the usage of licensed digital collections in collaboration with eResources Librarian, Monographs Librarian, and Library Operations Supervisor, Technical Services
- collaborate with Scholarly Communications Librarian on metadata in the Douglas College Open Repository [DOOR]
- provide reference and research services online via AskAway and in person across disciplines to support the College’s diverse student, faculty, and staff user community
- contribute to the success of the library’s instructional program by teaching course-integrated instruction across disciplines as well as workshops on a range of topics for faculty and staff, both online and in person
- work with Library, Learning Resources, and College colleagues on a range of teams and committees to support and advance strategic projects, priorities, and initiatives
- participate in local, regional, national, or international committees and organizations regarding issues or discussions related to areas of responsibility
- develop professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis to enhance services
- perform other duties as assigned
