We are seeking a dynamic, energetic individual with proven maker and tinkerer experience, as well as excellent customer service, programming and library skills.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Community and Creation, as part of the Information Services department, this role is responsible for the development, execution and support of makerspace programs and events, as well as engaging the community with innovative opportunities for learning, creation and discovery. This role will also be responsible for providing reference and information services, customer service and community outreach. As the Coordinator, Maker & Emerging Technology, your responsibilities will be, but not limited to:

  • Work with technology users with varying levels of experience in one-on-one sessions and group settings
  • Actively assist customers of all ages in the makerspace with a variety of machinery and software including but not limited to 3D printers, laser engraver/cutters, Cricut, heat press, embroidery machine
  • Actively assist customers of all ages in the recording studio, supporting their use of recording, photography and video equipment
  • Under the guidance of the Supervisor, Community and Creation, helps to prepare or obtain related maker and technology equipment training materials
  • Provide technology training and assistance to local businesses and entrepreneurs
  • Demonstrate makerspace technology and recording studio equipment to staff, empowering and supporting staff in the delivery of related services.
  • In consultation with the IT department, maintain relevant equipment and software
  • Actively seek out and recommend new trends in maker and creator technology, both digital and analog
  • Stay current with emerging technologies
  • Manage and maintain makerspace equipment, ensuring all equipment and accessories are present and in good working condition
  • Maintain a supply inventory and advise Supervisor when restocking is required

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a candidate with maker knowledge normally acquired through a post-secondary degree/diploma in art, design or technology, or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has two years of public experience as well as two years in a customer-focused setting. We are seeking people with excellent communication and customer service skills as well as superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster effective working relationships.

This position offers a salary range of $70,059.31 - $84,576.06 plus a competitive benefit package.

Notwithstanding the above, candidates who do not fulfill all of our requirements may be considered in a Development Status capacity. Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
