About Okanagan Regional Library

Located in beautiful British Columbia, ORL stretches from the Rocky Mountains through the wine and fruit producing lands of the Okanagan Valley to the South Okanagan and west through the Similkameen. It is a vibrant library system, with 30 branches, serving 26 diverse communities, over 300 employees, and a service population of over 400,000 people. Kelowna Branch, in the middle of ORL service area, is an exciting downtown library, located in the heart of Kelowna’s Cultural District and Tech Centre.

The Opportunity

Embark on a fulfilling journey with Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) as a Library Accessibility Assistant, where you will be ORL's resource and support for customers with print disabled status. Under the direction of the Community Engagement Coordinator, this dynamic role is based in our Downtown Kelowna branch. Your primary role is selection service - where you will create personalized profiles and curate content for print disabled customers borrow. You will also engage in programming and outreach, extending the print disabled services to other ORL branches and community organizations in ORL's service area.

As a member of ORL's Accessibility & Inclusion Advisory Committee, you'll play a key role in activating ORL's Accessibility Plan, working towards an inclusive environment for all.

Ideal candidates will possess a Library Technician diploma or 2 years of academic post-secondary education in liberal arts with an emphasis on critical thinking and communication, backed by at least two years of public facing experience in a public library. With a suite of skills ranging from excellent communication and organizational abilities to proficiency in e-Readers, Microsoft Office, and mobile technology, you'll be well-equipped to handle the diverse needs of these customers. A valid driver's license, physical capability to manage library materials, and a continuous thirst for learning are also essential. Join us in shaping a more accessible and inclusive future at ORL.

Compensation
