North Vancouver District Public Library inspires learning, discovery, creativity and collaboration in our community. Serving almost 90,000 residents across three current locations in the District of North Vancouver, NVDPL has supported a love of reading and culture of learning and discovery for 55 years. While nurturing innovation and honouring tradition, our library is a place where our all members of growing community can learn more, create more, and connect more.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Connections, and working at all three library locations and in the community, this temporary full-time Librarian 1 position will focus on engagement with teens and the delivery of service, programs and collections for teens. Librarianship at our Library requires a commitment to understanding and responding to community needs and a collaborative approach to developing and delivering services. The work includes:

  • Commitment and passion for working with teens and teen services, programming and literature
  • Providing reference and reader’s advisory services & supporting patrons in using digital services
  • Developing, delivering, and evaluating innovative teen programming and training
  • Developing and maintaining all formats in the Teen Collection
  • Conducting research and analysis
  • Conducting outreach to teens and young adults

Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with teens, ideally in a library context
  • Proven ability to provide leadership and responsible oversight of services and resources
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Experience with teamwork and projects; ability to take initiative & ask for assistance
  • An understanding of and commitment to the principles of intellectual freedom, inclusiveness and service excellence
  • Ability to effectively manage use of public space
  • Demonstrated competence with current library technologies and assisting patrons with accessing and navigating the digital environment
  • A master degree in information or library science from an accredited program
