Job Summary
The Youth and Community Librarian connects people with ideas, resources, and each other at the Medicine Hat Public Library. The Library is a unionized workplace; this position is part of CUPE Local 46.
Reporting to the Head of Youth Services, this energetic, community-focused role brings the library to life — both inside the building and out in the community. You’ll develop and deliver creative programs for youth (ages birth–19) in the library and at community locations throughout Medicine Hat, build meaningful partnerships, and help raise the library’s profile. You’ll also contribute to dynamic, responsive collections that reflect community interests and needs.
Working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, you’ll partner with colleagues across departments to design services, support shared goals, and advance the Library’s Plan of Service. At public service points, you’ll provide reference and readers’ advisory services, assist with digital resources and technology, and help create welcoming, inclusive experiences for everyone who walks through the doors.
If you’re outgoing, adaptable, team-oriented, and excited about making a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Qualifications
Master of Library Science/Studies from an ALA-accredited institution and a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent).
