Memorial University Libraries invites applications for a tenure-track position of Web Services Librarian, located in the Health Sciences Library.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the digital and academic landscapes of a vibrant academic library system. The successful candidate will lead transformative web initiatives across Memorial University Libraries while directly impacting student and faculty success through public service excellence in the Health Sciences Library. As an academic staff member, the successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the University through professional practice, academic service, and scholarly activity.

The Web Services Librarian will play a pivotal role in advancing both the digital presence and user engagement of Memorial University Libraries. This position combines leadership in web development and user experience (UX) with direct and grounding support for students and faculty through reference, instruction, and research support. The successful candidate will be a dynamic collaborator, innovative thinker, and user-focused professional committed to enhancing library services in both virtual and physical spaces.

The distribution of responsibilities between web/UX services and health sciences public services will vary over time, with increased time dedicated to web/UX leadership during major development or migration projects.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Memorial University Libraries Web Team, a consulting committee of librarians and staff from across the system, to maintain and strengthen the library’s website
• Work collaboratively with Library IT Services and other library, campus, and university-wide units
• Drive user-centred enhancements to the library’s website and related platforms, such as the SpringShare suite

• Play a strategic role in projects that support teaching, learning, and research through improved web services
• Ensure the library’s web presence is accessible, intuitive, and aligned with institutional goals
• Support learners, faculty, and staff in the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy through reference, instruction, and research support tailored to health sciences disciplines

Qualifications
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent. An undergraduate degree in a life-sciences or health-related field would be considered an asset.
• Familiarity with user experience design and the use of content management systems, particularly Terminalfour (T4) and Drupal
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards and usability principles
• Ability to interact effectively and work collaboratively with diverse groups
• Familiarity with current practices and emerging issues in academic librarianship, such as evidence synthesis methods, research data management, research metrics, and artificial intelligence
• Experience providing reference and instruction services in an academic setting, preferably in health sciences
• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
• Enthusiasm for working collaboratively

The Health Sciences Library, located in St. John’s, supports the academic and clinical information needs of faculty, staff, and students of Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, and the staff of the Health Sciences Centre site of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services. Health sciences librarians are academic staff members within the Faculty of Medicine.

Salary and Benefits
An appointment at the rank of Librarian I or Librarian II is anticipated. Salary is based on experience and qualifications. The salary range for Librarian I is $66,604-$83,474 and the salary range for Librarian II is $76,244-$102,754 as of September 1, 2025. This position is part of the bargaining unit and includes academic benefits such as provision of time for research and professional development.
