Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Librarian, this position supports a welcoming, inclusive environment at the Nelson Public Library through exceptional front-line customer service and the coordination of core library operations. The role oversees technical services, library technology maintenance, and administrative/financial record-keeping to ensure efficient daily service aligned with library values of access, equity, sustainability, and meaningful relationships.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Library Technician diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
- Significant library or other relevant work experience, including technology and customer
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to develop creative solutions for challenges that arise due to shifting work-related priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical standards for cataloguing and collection management.
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, interacting pleasantly and courteously with the public, community partners, and staff.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and business procedures.
- Strong computer technology skills, including MS Office, use of mobile devices, integrated library systems, and website maintenance software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of Library resources for reference services.
- Ability to create quality presentations at a Library program or events.
- Collaborate with relevant departments in the creation, development and usability of the library website.
- Knowledge and understanding of community needs and barriers faced by diverse populations.
Compensation
$39.35 ( + 12% in lieu of benefits)
