East Gwillimbury Public Library (www.egpl.ca) serves a growing community in the northern part of York Region, made up of a mix of urban areas and villages. Position Summary
The Summer Makerspace Assistant will play a vital supporting role in our brand-new Makerspace at the Queensville branch, a unique community resource designed to spark creativity and hands-on learning. This position will assist staff by helping with demonstrations, answering questions, and supporting staff with makerspace bookings and open hours.
Our Makerspace is an Innovation Hub, where community members of all ages can learn, tinker, and build skills using tools like a button maker, 3D printer, Cricut machines, heat press, laminator, large-format printer, laser cutter, and sublimation printer.
Qualifications
• Is currently enrolled in a recognized secondary or post-secondary educational institution. Students in Library, Teaching, or Technology fields are preferred.
• Enthusiastic and passionate about public libraries with a keen interest in makerspace and innovative technologies
• Strong customer service, communication, digital literacy, organization, and research skills.
• Experience or interest in providing customer service to people of all ages
• Ability to work independently and seek support from other staff when needed.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a busy and changing environment.
• Travel between branches and to community outreach events will be required.
• To comply with the Canada Summer Job grant program, candidates must:
o Be between 15 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
o Be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid social insurance number
o Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident status, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadian graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible)
Compensation
$19.50 per hour; 12-week contract
Schedule: 35 hours per week; includes evening and weekend shifts.
Position Start Date: Monday, May 25, 2026
Position End Date: Friday, August 14, 2026
