Special Projects and Training Librarian

Full-Time, Contract (2-3 months)

Reporting to the Director, Public and Digital Services, the Special Projects and Training Librarian is responsible to develop, conduct and evaluate training programs for all staff; assist with research, coordination and implementation of organizational projects; provide advanced front-line reference and technology assistance to library members.

What You’ll Do

As a Special Projects and Training Librarian you will be responsibility for:

  • Answers member questions in person, by telephone or by internet:
    • General inquiries.
    • Advanced Reference queries including assisting library members in locating and accessing information resources, answering their questions, and providing guidance on research, to support member information needs.
    • Advanced Readers Advisory including assisting members to find resources using the library catalogue, electronic databases, microfilm equipment and the internet and making recommendations to members regarding leisure reading, viewing and listening material.
    • Makes recommendations to members regarding leisure reading, viewing and listening material.
    • Instructs members in the use of computers and/or software, maker for users with all skill levels.
  • Keeps abreast of trends, and standards in employee training. Queries staff and managers, and conducts needs analysis to determine training requirements for the organization to assist with short- and long-term planning.
  • Coordinates training sessions facilitated by external trainers.
  • Oversees the organization, set up, and assignment of content on the learning management system.
  • Updates and maintains staff training records, including all required Health & Safety training.
  • Responsible for addressing the conduct of members and visitors that violates Idea Exchange’s code of conduct.
  • Member of the team providing IT support on location, or via phone or email.
  • Investigates, develops and evolves the organization’s professional development program.
  • Designs and updates training documentation such as course material, exercises and procedural manuals.
  • As assigned, assists with the coordination and planning of a variety of organizational projects.
  • Creates and maintains project documentation such as training requirements, processes and procedures.
  • Develops, conducts and evaluates training sessions and/or independent study programs as directed
  • Makes recommendations to the Director, Public and Digital Services, regarding the development of Digital Services policies and procedures.
  • Acts as Person in Charge when assigned.
  • Covers Member Services and Information Services duties as required.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:

  • Required - University Master’s Degree in Library Information Science or Information Studies
  • Required - Experience working in a library – Two (2) years
  • Required - Experience working in a service environment – Six (6) months
  • Required – Valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Required - Demonstrated proficiency with Window OS and Microsoft 365 suite, including Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
  • Required – Clear Vulnerable Police Check
  • Preferred – Experience with video editing and recording
  • Preferred – Experience with public speaking

Pay: Starting at $41.29 per hour (Level 10 in our Salary grid)

Hours: 70 hours in a two-week period

Monday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Tuesday 12:30pm - 8:30pm

Wednesday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Thursday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Saturday OFF

Sunday OFF

Week 2

Monday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Tuesday 12:30pm - 8:30pm

Wednesday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Thursday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm

Note: A shift from 9:30am – 5:30pm is required every 5th Saturday
