The Role:
As part of the 2025-2028 Strategic Plan, the Board has identified 3 At Large members (Indigenous, voice, EDI voice, Advocacy voice), which have staggered elections, each for three year terms. The At Large – Advocacy position will be elected in this round and serve as a member of the Board of Directors for 2026-2028 calendar years. This role will contribute to the advocacy efforts outlined in the 2025 – 2028 OLA Strategic Plan, specifically Champion Libraries. Secure the Future.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Keeping OLA’s vision, mission, values and goals front and centre.
- Dreaming big with us—planning and visioning for OLA’s future.
- Building connections with all types of libraries and community partnerships.
- Overseeing policy changes and keeping things fresh and current.
- Getting involved in finance planning (yes, the exciting world of budgets!).
Meetings: Attend monthly meetings, and additional committee meeting, looking through the lens of advocacy, and voting on matters in the best interest of the Association.
Who We're Looking For:
-Active members of OLA in any sector who have lived experience in advocacy work that they can bring to our Board discussions
- A strong commitment to OLA’s mission and values.
- Passion for advocating for inclusive librarianship and community engagement.
- Interested in government relations and advocacy
The Nitty-Gritty:
- Term: 3 years total. .
- Time Commitment: We get it—life is busy. OLA is super flexible but this role does require a steady commitment. Expect monthly board meetings (primarily virtual), some planning sessions, and of course the annual OLA Super Conference. Some additional time may be needed for advocacy work and representing OLA at various functions.
- Perks: In addition to making a last impact on the library community, you’ll gain valuable leadership skills, broaden your network, and get involved in high-level advocacy. Plus, we cover travel expenses when you need to head to Toronto.
