Manager, Information Technology (One year)

There is an opening for the position of Manager, Information Technology at Library Administration. This is an exempt full-time (35 hours per week) position reporting to the Director, Collections & Technology. This is a one year temporary position with the possibility of extension. The Manager of Information Technology is responsible for the system-wide planning, implementation and ongoing operation of technology infrastructure and technology related resources. The Manager oversees a broad range of services to staff and the public on technology related aspects such as use, support, troubleshooting, training, emerging trends and evaluation.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Administers and supports a broad range of services relating to the integrated library system.
- Develops and implements plans relating to the use and deployment of library technology.
- Leads system technology projects.
- Collaborates with City Information Technology staff and vendors on service planning, enhancements and coordination of system and hardware upgrades.
- Hires, coaches and evaluates staff reporting to the position.
- Maintains awareness of and addresses changing customer needs related to the use of library related technology.
- Provides for technology troubleshooting and problem solving to support library service delivery. Plans for training documents related to upgrades, enhancements or service interruptions.
- Researches, evaluates and implements software and hardware applications; liaises with City staff, external vendors and consultants as necessary.
- Oversees the Library system’s technology equipment inventory.
- Generates and gathers a wide range of statistics and prepares reports regarding issues and activities relating to Technology planning and use.
- Represents the Library at a variety of community and civic activities or through participation in library associations or consortia activities.
- Co-ordinates and/or participates in library committees and undertakes special projects as requested.
- Investigates complaints relating to Information Technology and resolves by taking appropriate action.
- Represents Management in Labour Management and grievance matters, as required.
- Performs other related duties.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Masters of Library Science from an ALA accredited program, or a Bachelors in Information Technology management, computer science or related field.
- Three to five years’ experience working with technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory and project management experience.
- Thorough knowledge of current trends, developments, solutions and best practices in public library technology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems, discovery layers, access and authentication software, and database management.
- Working knowledge of technology used to serve library users, such as copiers, print management software and self-serve options.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills with a strong customer-focus orientation.
- Ability to interpret and translate technical materials into plain language.
- Ability to learn and assess new technologies rapidly, with specific emphasis on library-related technologies.
- Ability to exercise considerable independence and discretion in managing systems.
Salary: $106,985-122,148
