Job Summary

Provide customer service & support in the use of makerspaces at Central Library and Branch Libraries. Provide makerspace training & support to library staff and external partners.

 

Please note: Although this position will be home accounted to Hazel McCallion Central Library, the successful candidates may be scheduled to work at any library location across the City of Mississauga and will be required to organize their own travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technology support to customers in library Makerspaces.
  • Provide cash handling (including collecting fees, refunds, opening and closing procedures in regards to cash/float counting).
  • Participate in supervision, training and/or evaluation
  • Provide training to public in the use of Makerspace equipment and technology.
  • Coordinate, plan and conduct Makerspace training, class visits, tours and outreach.
  • Deliver Makerspace training for branch/department library staff.
  • Assist in development of Makerspace processes and procedures, maintains and updates procedures.
  • Responsible for first level repair support for Makerspace equipment.
  • Participate on system-wide task teams and/or special projects or events.
  • Support identified partners in use of Makerspace.
  • Facilitate transfer of shared Makerspace materials to branches.
  • Contribute to reports and statistics.
  • Prepare payroll, attendance and financial records.
  • Coordinate routine duties such as inventories, supplies, financial records, holds, exhibits, and room bookings.
  • Provide basic reference and reader's advisory at Makerspace service points, triages complex requests tobranch/department information staff.
  • In the absence of more senior staff, is responsible for the Central Library Makerspace and/or library location.
  • Responsible for fostering a positive and respectful workplace.
  • Responsible for the health, safety and security of staff and customers in accordance with occupational health and safety legislation and library policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Please note: This is a bargaining unit position. CUPE Local 1989 members will be given consideration for this vacancy, as per the collective agreement, followed by all other employees.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in education, arts, science, library techniques, technology or related field with experience in the provision of training or customer service in the use of technology and digital creation tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of technology training.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills are essential in dealing with the staff and public.
  • Effective written and oral skills in English are essential.
  • Ability to lead others.
  • Professional knowledge in the use of Makerspace tools and equipment (eg. Laser Cutting, Vinyl Printing, Embroidery, Sewing, 3D Printing, Cricut, Sound/Audio Recording, Photography/Videography)
  • Professional knowledge in the use of Makerspace software (eg. Adobe Creative Suite, Corel Draw, Inkscape, Cricut Design Space, Tinkercad, Audacity, Logic Pro)
  • Demonstrated experience with Mac and PC technology support.
  • Some lifting is involved.
  • Ability to work at any Makerspace location in Mississauga.
  • Hours of work to include two evenings per week and alternate Saturdays.
  • SUNDAY WORK MAY BE REQUIRED.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 31.95 - 38.47
Grade: T4
Hours of Work: 20 up to 48 hours biweekly (closer to 40 up to 48 hours biweekly)
