Job Summary
Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Prince Rupert campus, invites applications for a full-time Library Technician – Cataloging & Acquisitions commencing as soon as possible for 35 hours per week. The starting salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Salary Scale, Level 8: $2,273.60 bi-weekly plus a comprehensive benefits plan including paid health and dental, paid vacation and sick days, and pension.

Duties: The Library Technician - Cataloguing & Acquisitions plays a key role in supporting library services across all campuses by managing the acquisition, cataloguing, and processing of print and digital learning resources. As part of the library team, this position provides circulation, reference, and interlibrary loan services while ensuring library collections are accurately catalogued, accessible, and maintained according to professional standards.
Key responsibilities include acquiring and processing library materials, creating and maintaining bibliographic records, cataloguing resources using established library standards (AACR2, RDA, MARC, and Library of Congress classifications), processing invoices and purchase orders, and maintaining collection records. The position also assists students, faculty, and staff with research, reference inquiries, library technologies, and access to information resources.
Additional duties include collection maintenance, inventory management, repairing or replacing damaged materials, training student assistants and casual staff, supporting library operations across campuses, and participating in ongoing professional development and departmental activities.
Qualifications
A Library Technician diploma along with a minimum of two years of experience working in an academic library, including three years progressive experience within a post-secondary environment in Student Services or the Office of the Registrar using an integrated system.
Required skills and abilities include:
- A Library Technician diploma
- Two years of experience working in an academic library
- Minimum one year of experience in purchasing, acquisitions, bookkeeping, or related financial processes, preferably using Colleague or similar systems
- Experience with library cataloguing standards, integrated library systems, and customer service
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
