Job Summary

The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is a community-focused, single-branch Library serving a diverse population of 42,800. The community includes urban and rural areas with most of the population centered in town, which is on the edge of the GTA and adjacent to the Holland Marsh. Bradford is a growing community with an increasing demand for library services.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Engagement, the Library Programmer will provide exceptional programming for the community, delivering programs to children, teens, adults, and older adults.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with the Program Development Coordinator to plan, develop, promote, implement and deliver programs for children, youth, adults and older adults.
  • Maintains a list of participants and attendance records, as needed.
  • Provides support to the Program Development Coordinator in areas of program development, evaluation, and assessments.
  • Works collaboratively with the Program Development Coordinator on the development and planning of special events.
  • Communicates with potential instructors for arts, crafts and other workshop programs.
  • Ensures that programming supplies are on hand and recommends the purchasing of new supplies as needed.
  • Maintains statistics about programs, including usage and participant numbers.
  • Assists the Program Development Coordinator with preparing programming reports.

Key Competencies and Qualifications

  • Library Technician Diploma, Early Childhood Education Diploma, Child and Youth Worker, Recreation & Leisure Services Diploma or related.
  • Minimum of (1) year of previous experience leading programming for children, teens, adults and older adults with preference given to those with programming experience in a public library setting.
  • Ability to promote a culture of inclusiveness and engage and work with a diverse population of employees and the public.
  • Familiarity with programs and events including STEAM programming.
  • Comfortable delivering programs through various platforms (ie, in person, virtual, small group and large group).
  • Experience creating or appearing in social media video content is considered an asset.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and delivery high quality programs for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new or additional digital tools and technologies.
  • Ability to deal courteously, effectively and tactfully with all levels of staff, the public, community groups, agencies/organizations, and all levels of government.
  • Ability to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as part of a regular schedule.
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.

The position offers an hourly rate of $28.60 (CUPE Local 905.29 rates) and works approximately 20 hours per week.

Compensation

$28.60/hour
