1 Temporary Full-Time Position, up to 1 year, 35 hours per week at Hazel McCallion Central Library, Children, Youth & Popular Collections

Job Summary

Provide customer service, reference and readers’ advisory and programs. In the absence of more senior staff, is responsible for the department or library location.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory
  • Provide circulation services to customers, including cash handling
  • Participate in supervision, scheduling, training, and/or evaluation
  • In the absence of more senior staff, is responsible for the department and/or library location, including staff, facility, and health and safety
  • Coordinate, plan, and conduct programs, class visits, tours, outreach
  • Prepare payroll, attendance, and financial records
  • Coordinate and perform duties such as, collection maintenance, inventories, supplies, financial records, holds, art exhibits, displays, and room bookings
  • Participate on system-wide task teams and/or special projects or events
  • Prepare reports and statistics
  • May coordinate, organize, and provide services for Homebound and Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) for the entire library system supporting individuals with accessibility needs to access library services
  • May coordinate, organize, and provide Books to Go services for all locations
  • Responsible for fostering a positive and respectful workplace
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Secondary school graduation plus 3 years library experience, or a university degree/post secondary library diploma with some library experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills are essential in dealing with the staff and public
  • Effective written and oral skills in English are essential
  • Demonstrated keyboarding ability
  • Ability to lead others
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of library electronic resources
  • Computer skills are required in relevant software
  • Ability to identify process improvements and efficiencies, and lead implementation of changes
  • Lifting is involved

Hourly Rate/Salary: $31.95 - $38.47
Grade: T4
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Work Location: Hazel McCallion Central Library
