THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Manager, Adult & Senior Engagement, the Librarian is a dedicated advocate for the value of diversity in our community. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about empowering adult customers to reach their full potential through innovative programs and resources. They bring extensive experience in planning and delivering adult-focused programming, building community partnerships, and have a strong understanding of newcomer services in Brampton. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Provides a broad range of services to the public.
  • Prepares and submits budget estimates for assigned collections. Selects and maintains the collections within budget guidelines.
  • Develops and delivers programs as required for various target groups and community partners and may include the coordination of system wide programs.
  • Functions as PIC.
  • Assists in the overall maintenance of branch and department collections.
  • Creates and/or maintains indexes, bibliographies, and displays.
  • Responds to basic circulation queries and problems. Refers unresolved issues to the appropriate area or supervisor.
  • Schedules information services staff.
  • Conducts library tours, as required.
  • Provides recommendations to established methods or procedures or sequence of operation.

THE IDEAL PROFILE:

  • Education: Master of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited school.
  • Work experience: 2 to 3 years practical experience working with adults in a library setting.
  • Computer applications: Intermediate keyboarding skills and the ability to work with computer-based systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform all the job factors and job duties in a satisfactory manner.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Ability to communicate in Hindi, Urdu and/or Punjabi orally and written, will be considered an asset.
