Job Summary

The Librarian 1 will be implementing the Library To Go Van services to engage in community outreach throughout Richmond under the supervisor of the Coordinator.

Description of Position

The Librarian I is an experienced professional who is responsible for the implementation of the RPL To Go Van services. The Librarian is responsible for the performance of a variety of functions, such as the overall planning, scheduling and community building in the area of outreach and service delivery, and developing processes for other staff to do continue similarly within their areas of focus. The incumbent demonstrates consider knowledge in partnerships and outreach, programming, collections and digital technology. They have a passion for sharing and promoting library services to a diverse audience of all ages.

Job Responsibility Details

  • Implements the designed services by driving the Library To Go van to multiple locations at various times of the day and evenings
  • Performs reference duties in providing information and assistance to the public regarding library materials, procedures, regulations and resources; provides readers’ advisory services to adults, teens, children and families.
  • Actively walks the floor and offers proactive customer service. Engages with library members to develop programs and collections that meet changing customer needs.
  • Actively promotes the collection and services to users; evaluates collection and makes purchase recommendations for current and new collections in both physical and digital formats; evaluate effectiveness of services and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Under direction, plans, organizes and participates in library programs, outreach, and projects, and presents and publicizes services through school visits, book talks, community events and other programs to a variety of groups.
  • Evaluates and selects appropriate electronic resources to be included on the library’s website.
  • Performs duties related to developing and delivering training modules for both staff and the public on the Internet and a variety of electronic resources.
  • Performs related work as required.

Under the leadership of the Coordinator of Customer Experience, this position will determine the requirements for collections and tools needed to provide outreach services.

  • Develops ongoing schedule; Determines numerous community locations to provide service to, to collaborate at events with and to deliver programs from.
  • Raises the library's visibility, along with other departments and staff, by bringing entertaining and instructional library presence to community events and a variety of spaces for all ages
  • Along with staff across all departments, builds community relationships by promoting library services, collections and programs when out in the community
  • upholds the library's mission, vision and values when delivering services throughout Richmond
  • Provides circulation services and essential customer service to build memberships and library awareness
  • In collaboration with programming staff, explores new options to serve more remote users of all ages
  • Evaluates service, records metrics and KPI's
  • Supports social media efforts presence by generating and publishing content related to services that build meaningful connections and engagement
  • Loads and unloads items including books, display units, equipment and supplies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Qualifications Information

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship and of the organization, procedures and services of the library system.
  • Strong interest in developing library services and sound knowledge of digital services.
  • Strong customer service skills and demonstrated experience.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced library and to adapt to an innovative working environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to promote interest of existing library services to the community.
  • Ability to engage with the community in developing library services, programming and collections.
  • Ability to promote and demonstrate library’s print and online resources to the public.
  • Good interpersonal skills; the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Internet, new digital technologies and a wide variety of electronic resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the use and troubleshooting of basic computer hardware and software.

Additional Requirements Information

  • University graduation plus a degree in librarianship from an ALA accredited library school, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • A valid B.C. Driver's License
  • Successful candidate will also be required to complete a New Driver Orientation training and provide a copy of their driver's license along with a Commercial Driving Record (driving abstract) during the onboarding process.

Rate of Pay

  • $40.02 - $47.11 per hour

Schedule
Re-assignments of weekly schedule or daily shift and/or location will take place as operational needs dictate. The initial schedule is a follows:

Monday: 1:45pm-9:15pm - Cambie Library
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 10:00am-5:30pm - Brighouse Library/ Outreach
Friday 8:45am-4:15pm - Cambie Library
Saturday and Sunday: REST DAYS
