Hours of Work: Various, evenings and weekends as required
Salary: $36.36 - $42.13 hourly as per the Librarian 1 Classification within the C.U.P.E Collective Agreement.

Job Profile
As the Branch Head Librarian, you will have the exciting opportunity to manage a library branch and actively promote the services of Winnipeg Public Library for the City of Winnipeg.
As the Branch Head Librarian, you will:
- Supervise the work of the Branch staff including training and evaluating their performance
- Plan and schedule the work within the Branch
- Provide information and reference services to adults and children
- Participate in collection maintenance and development, ensuring proper processing and repair of materials and book sale as required
- Participate in the preparation, delivery and/or promotion of library materials, and services such as regular story hours, Branch programs, displays, etc.
- Prepare monthly statistical reports
- Make recommendations regarding the maintenance and physical appearance of the Branch
- Handle contentious interpretations of library rules and regulations
- Participate as a member of a group of colleagues in discussing and making recommendations regarding library procedures
- Identify community needs and plan programs and collection development to meet those needs
- Engage with the community to build Library awareness
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as required
Your education and qualifications include:
- A Master of Library & Information Sciences (MLIS) degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). An MLIS degree (or equivalent) obtained internationally through a formally accredited institution may also be considered.
- Previous library experience considered an asset.
- Must possess a broad subject knowledge and have a good general knowledge of reference materials and technologies.
- Ability to evaluate and integrate the use of information technologies in the provision of library services.
- Ability to plan and provide quality programs for adults.
- Ability to make presentations and promote library materials, services and programs to the community.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public and staff on a problem-solving basis.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and to maintain effective working relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- A strong commitment to public service and the ability to work with a diverse patronage.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
