
Job Summary
The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is a community-focused, single-branch Library serving a diverse population of 42,800. The community includes urban and rural areas with most of the population centered in town, which is on the edge of the GTA and adjacent to the Holland Marsh. Easily accessible from Highways 400, 27 and 11, Bradford is a growing community with an increasing demand for library services.
The Library has an opening for a part-time Information Specialist. Reporting to the Information Services Supervisor, providing a variety of public services including reference, readers’ advisory, and user-support of the Library including its digital resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide advanced reference and readers’ advisory services to the public.
- Demonstrate the use of online public catalogue to the community.
- Promote and assist users with library technology, including public computers, e-books, and online databases.
- Act as backup/relief/fill for the Customer Service Specialists which includes performing all service desk functions, as required.
- Monitors behavior of patrons when working in the public area.
- Research and propose new, innovative services as they relate to information services.
- Design, implement the display and promotion of library collections (physical and digital).
- Promote library services and resources to the community.
- Provides ILLO Services including requesting, receiving, and processing materials for library users.
- Supports the Emerging Technologies Specialist in the Creative Lab.
- Develops training materials, customer service resources, booklists and other content related promotional material.
- Collaborates with other departments to coordinate display and promotional material for programs/events.
Key Competencies and Qualifications
- Diploma in Library and Information Technician with preference given to those with a degree in a related field.
- 2 years related experience in a library or information setting.
- Previous experience with interlibrary loan procedures is an asset
- Knowledge of reference interview and readers’ advisory techniques.
- Demonstrate broad knowledge of authors, literature, publishers, popular culture and trends and consults a variety of review sources.
- Familiarity with the range and scope of information, both electronic and non-electronic found in a public Library.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of information retrieval and information storage techniques as they relate to information databases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, emerging technology
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster cooperative working relationships and maintain diplomacy and integrity.
- Ability to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies, and the public.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as part of a regular schedule.
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.
- Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
The position offers an hourly rate of $30.66 (CUPE Local 905.29 rate) and is for approximately 10 hours per week.
