Job Summary
The West Vancouver Memorial Library is well known as an innovative and award-winning library that prioritizes inclusion, a learning culture, organizational integrity, and enhancing community through our programs, services, and relationships. Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities.
The West Vancouver Memorial Library has an opening for a permanent full-time Digital Access Librarian position. The WVML Technology Team is passionate, inspired, and known throughout the province for innovation, responsiveness, and leadership.
Reporting to the Library Services Coordinator—Digital Experience, and working alongside a motivated high-performing team, the Digital Access Librarian is responsible for:
• developing and delivering instructional programs for both kids and adults;
• providing advice, assistance, and advanced support to users of various technologies;
• developing and deploying technology-related initiatives throughout the library;
• participating as a member of a team engaged in the planning, design, and implementation of spaces, other infrastructure and digital services;
• and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
The preferred candidate will possess working knowledge of:
• the principles and practices of librarianship;
• the key components of WVML’s on-line presence and the tech-related services we offer, including our robust existing suite of programs;
• the principles of instructional design, both in-person and virtual, including facilitation in recorded and live video formats;
• PC and Mac platforms and software applications;
• mobile device and e-reader platforms;
• apps, tools and resources for digital content consumption and creation;
• key virtual instruction tools like video conferencing platforms and basic video editing and social networking tools;
• familiarity with classroom management techniques.
The preferred candidate will also possess some familiarity with:
• programming languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
•coding languages like Python
•digitization tools and software
•artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality
• As well as the ability to:-engage audiences on camera for demonstrations, training, and live streaming in hybrid programming;
• plan, organize and carry out projects independently and as part of a cross-functional team;
• establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff;
• provide timely and effective customer service;
• and communicate effective orally and in writing.
The successful candidate will have a degree in librarianship from an accredited library school, including or supplemented by courses in one or more of the following: instructional design, youth and/or seniors’ services, website design, Microsoft Office, programming, multimedia development, user experience, digital collections and services and preferably some professional library experience. The ability to speak Farsi, Mandarin, and/or French will be considered an asset. The successful candidate is required to supply a vulnerable sector police information check and a copy of their credentials. A cover letter is also required as part of the application process.

Hours of Work:
37.5 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Starting Rate of Pay:
$40.13 per hour (2025 rates)
(This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually)
