Coordinator, Collections & Technical Services

Position Summary

The Coordinator, Collection and Technical Services provides guidance to the cataloguing and acquisitions teams including new methodologies. They lead the cataloguing and processing of library material, providing original and complex cataloguing, and guidance for resource description in metadata schemas for all formats. They recommend methods to deal with metadata initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Snr. Manager, Library Services in the development of the collections budget for budget estimates, anticipating expected projections or changes.
  
• Create and analyse budget reports for LLC collections, explaining budget increases or unsupplied materials or anticipated expenditure till year end.
  
• Conduct research and analyse and evaluate acquisitions practices to review new practices and products. Make recommendations based on research and job knowledge to advise Manager about the merits, the impact and suggested course of action.
  
• Trains library faculty and staff on library-specific acquisitions and cataloguing systems and applications
  
• Compiles LLC service statistics reports for submission to the college consortium and prepares reports for collection analysis.
  
• Perform original and complex cataloging for materials in all formats, conforming to national and local standards and practices such as MARC, RDA, LCSH, OCLC, LC classification and other standards as catalog and discovery systems develop. Ensure that descriptions and choice of access points promote the discoverability of resources either via browsing or keyword searches.
  
• Coordinate and support the lifecycle of electronic resources for the library, including acquisitions, implementation, renewals, licensing, troubleshooting and assessment of eBooks, demand driven acquisition plans, electronic packages, journals and databases. Serves as the expert for issues related to access.
  
• Provide reference and research assistance to students/faculty and staff from a basic query to a more detailed search.
