Adult Services Programmer: (Permanent Part-Time)

The New Tecumseth Public Library is seeking a people-oriented individual to work in all three Branches (Alliston, Tottenham and Beeton) as a Permanent Part-Time Adult Services Programmer. The successful applicant will be required to work with a very high degree of accuracy, exercise tact and independent judgment in accordance with library policy and must possess demonstrated respect and appreciation for patrons of all ages. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for additional hours available from time to time, and that the applicant should be available to work at all three branches and have transportation to the same.
Requirements
- A library technician’s diploma or equivalent in training and experience is required.
- A post-secondary degree in library sciences, adult literature, recreation and leisure studies, social services, or a similar field of study is considered an asset. Successful completion of the provision of adult programming, Reader’s Advisory, or Reference Services from a recognized program is considered an asset
- Two (2) years’ prior working experience, preferably in a public library, is required.
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service
- A commitment to continued professional development
- Excellent communication and public relations skills essential
- Advanced technology and computer literacy skills essential
- Knowledge of collections, electronic databases and reference sources required
- Excellent time management skills required
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research, draft preliminary adult programs; assist/co-facilitate program delivery with the Coordinator
- Assist with adult’s collection development including weeding and recommendations for purchase
- Assist adults in selecting and locating library materials related to adult reading and viewing materials
- Assist in the creation of reader’s advisory lists of adult material
- Provide draft details for promotional material for adult programs
- Draft publicity and marketing initiatives for adult programs for review and discussion with Coordinator and Manager
- Promote adult programs and initiatives to outreach and community organizations
- Assist with adult branch displays
- Ability to travel between branches and outreach locations is necessary
- Provide temporary relief as required in any location
- Other duties as assigned
Wage Rate: $ 32.53 per hour.
Hours of Work: Up to an average of 25 hours per week. Hours and location are subject to change at any time.
Base Location: Memorial Branch (Alliston)
