Job Summary

Position Overview
The Port Moody Public Library is seeking a resourceful and innovative Digital & Information Services Librarian that enjoys providing front-line customer service and fostering digital literacy within the community.  

Port Moody Public Library is a one-branch library system that serves a community of approximately 35,000 residents. Located 30 minutes east of Vancouver on the picturesque Burrard Inlet, the library is within walking distance from the SkyTrain, seaside parks, mountain trails, the recreation centre and shopping centres. The Port Moody public library strives to be a welcoming and safe space for the community and is known for its personal service and dedication to customer service.  

The Digital & Information Services Librarian position is ideal for a self-motivated librarian who is committed to continuously improving the library’s core services and appreciates the challenge of taking on a variety of responsibilities. As part of a small library team, you will have the opportunity to take the lead and influence what and how information and digital services are being delivered at the library. You will also be able to share your enthusiasm and curiosity for technology when planning and implementing library services.  

Responsibilities
This position will collaborate with the Digital and Information Services Coordinator to plan, deliver, and evaluate library services. Your responsibilities include:  

  • Providing reference and readers’ advisory services for all ages at the Information Desk  
  • Providing computer and tech help to staff and patrons in a one-on-one or workshop setting 
  • Creating and updating website content
  • Maintaining the library’s social media channels 
  • Planning, coordinating, and delivering computer and technology workshops for all ages
  • Planning, implementing, and engaging the community with technology-related initiatives  
  • Developing resources in different formats to foster reading, literacy, and lifelong learning 
  • Leading and participating in library-wide projects  
  • Assuming collection development responsibilities for designated areas of the print and digital collection 
  • Participating in library marketing activities  

 Required Qualifications  

  • Master's degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an accredited program, including specialized course work in the areas of instructional design, website design, digital services, and digital resources.  
  • Two years of recent, related experience including experience working and programming in a public library setting (special or academic library experience would be considered).  
  • Demonstrated experience providing information services, preferably in a public library setting.  
  • Demonstrated readers’ advisory services experience.  
  • Demonstrated experience with instructing/assisting the public with using a variety of computer applications and devices, and with accessing library resources such as eBooks.  
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to deal with challenging patrons.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current technology trends, and how technology integrates with library service delivery.  
  • Ability to train individuals and groups.  
  • Ability to plan and present library digital programs for various age groups.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to improve services in a dynamic, collegial team environment.  

  Additional Qualifications  

  • Experience with promotional writing and developing social media content in a corporate environment.  
  • Familiar with adult, teen and children's literature in all formats.  
  • Experience with Content Management Systems to update and maintain websites.  
  • Familiar with project management principles.  
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate others to work towards a shared goal.  

This is a regular, full-time Monday to Friday position (35 hours per week) with one evening shift.

Compensation

$41.35 - $44.48/Hour
