Position: Marketing & Communications Assistant Status: Full Time
Salary Range: $25.28 – 30.32 hourly (Level VII)
Home Location: Main Branch
Hours of Work: Works 70 hours over a two-week period

Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Assistant supports the Manager. Marketing & Communications in the development, delivery and implementation of Milton Public Library’s (MPL) Marketing & Communications initiatives. MPL’s Marketing & Communications Assistant is the primary point of contact for all MPL staff and day-to-day Marketing & Communications queries. The Marketing & Communications Assistant will work collaboratively with all MPL staff.

Qualifications
• A minimum diploma in marketing and/or public relations, or a related field
• A minimum of one-year of experience working in Marketing and Communications in a public library or similar setting
• Demonstrated ability to produce well-designed publicity and presentations
• Strong customer service skills
• Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
• Experience with digital marketing tools (email platforms, social scheduling tools)
• Basic knowledge of SEO and Website Content Management Systems
• Understanding of accessibility guidelines (AODA, WCAG) for marketing materials
• Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills
• Ability to take initiative, work independently and to organize time efficiently
• Social media experience, including graphic and video work
• Proficiency in Canva, Photoshop/ InDesign an asset

Work Environment:
• Unionized position as part of CUPE Local 4366
• Works in a fast-paced environment
• Works at any MPL library location
• Works as per the assigned schedule, including evenings and weekends as per the provisions within Collective Agreement
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
• Under the direction of the Manager, Marketing & Communications, provides targeted marketing and communications support for the services and programs of the library, both in print, online and via social media
• Provides targeted publicity as needed for ad-hoc library projects
• Attends special events and programs as needed to capture (photos, videos) and amplify the library’s message to the community. Actively monitors trends, issues, and standards in Marketing & Communications, and library best practices
• Promotes and sustains a customer-centred focus
• Supports MPL’s social media presence across a variety of platforms, coordinating relevant content under the direction of the Manager, Marketing & Communications
• Supports MPL’s multimedia initiatives and the creation of digital content, including supporting email marketing and website content accuracy
• Ensures brand consistency throughout all publications and graphics both internal and external
• Assists in the coordination of MPL events and displays both internal and external
• Provides Marketing & Communications support to MPL staff
• Provides Graphic Design support for promotional requests
• Assists in monitoring campaign effectiveness and preparing analytics reports
• Ensures all marketing materials (print and digital) meet accessibility and inclusivity standards following AODA best practices
• Other duties as assigned

Compensation

$25.28 – 30.32 hourly (Level VII)
