The Library’s mission is to sustainably develop, preserve and make accessible UWinnipeg’s knowledge and cultural resources in support of teaching and research. It is a core academic service that provides the spaces and services necessary for students, faculty, and community researchers to discover, create, access and use these resources.
The Assistant Circulation Supervisor is a full-time term position that oversees public service operations in the Library during evening and weekend hours and is responsible for delivering patron services; managing workflows established by the Public Services Manager; resolving minor issues with staff, patrons, technology, and facilities; and referring larger problems to the appropriate supervisor or department.

Please note, this position works Monday to Friday, two evenings per week.
Monday 9am – 5 pm
Tuesday 9am – 5 pm
Wednesday 1 – 9 pm
Thursday 1 – 9 pm
Friday 9am – 5 pm
Responsibilities:
- Checks out, checks in, and renews circulating resources (including Course Reserves material) for authorized patrons using the Integrated Library System (ILS) and associated support systems.
- Creates and updates Library patron records.
- Provides instruction on how to use the Library website, access accounts, renew materials, and access Course Reserves information.
- Accepts payments for fines, lost books, etc. and assists with cash handling duties and running financial transaction reports.
- Maintains good public relations with Library patrons, answers questions and refers to appropriate service points.
- Provides assistance in the location and use of information resources in print and electronic format within and external to the Library.
- Responds to and resolves circulation issues and explains Library policies and refers complaints and broader administrative concerns to an appropriate supervisor.
- May assist with stack maintenance and sorting materials, including Course Reserves and items for repair.
- Provides instruction, assistance, and basic maintenance of Library technology, such as photocopiers and printers.
- Carries out opening and/or closing procedures.
- May participate in developing and maintaining standards, policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Coordinates with the Public Services Manager to determine priorities for evening and weekend Circulation shifts.
- Supervises and directs Circulation staff and workflows in the Circulation Department during evening and weekend hours.
- Supports and guides Circulation staff with duties and patron interactions.
- Manages, documents, and reports security and facility issues to appropriate departments and personnel.
- Reports evening staffing issues and absences.
- Attends meetings and participates in Library Committees.
Qualifications:
- High School Completion or acceptable equivalent.
- Undergraduate degree preferred.
- A 2-year diploma from a recognized Library technician’s program (or equivalent) would be an asset.
- Two years of directly related Library experience, using procedures, standards, and systems appropriate to the area.
- Experience with integrated library system software.
- Familiarity with WMS would be an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and M365.
- Must have considerable manual dexterity.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to apply automated and manual procedures.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and faculty.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Able to work two evenings per week.
